Orca Technologies
About
The three co-founders of Orca, Amir, Jorge, and Kristian, worked in the marine electronics industry for a few years when a simple question surfaced that they couldn't answer. Why do more than 70% of boaters with a dedicated marine navigation system feel the need for mobile applications while planning and navigating at sea?
Armed with feedback from boaters worldwide, Orca decided to team up with BatchOne to build a new navigation system combining the best of traditional marine navigation systems and mobile applications.
ORCA CORE:
With an integrated high-sensitivity GPS, 9-axis IMU, and compass, the Orca Core can fully replace traditional NMEA 2000 GPS and compass units aboard while broadcasting sensor data wirelessly to any smartphone, tablet, or to the Orca Display Kit.
BatchOne was responsible for product specification, selection of core components, the PCB design and development of the electronics, and the integration into the boat's ecosystem using the NMEA2000 standard.
Furthermore, BatchOne took care of the industrial design and mechanical engineering from initial sketches and renderings to production, including the Design for Manufacturing (DFM). Throughout the project, several prototypes were built and jointly tested.
Last but not least, BatchOne helped to find the right manufacturing partner, supported the design for the manufacturing phase, and took care of the entire certification process, including lab tests.
ORCA DISPLAY KIT:
The Orca Display Kit is a 10.1" full-HD outdoor viewable screen and mount with integrated charging. Using a Samsung tablet and RAM® Mounts, the system combines powerful hardware and cellular connectivity with a robust hands-free experience.
The Orca Display Kit is detachable from the mount to be used anywhere on the boat, thanks to the built-in 7600 mAh battery. BatchOne was responsible for developing the sleeve that secures the tablet, the mounting, and the charging solution.
Main tasks included industrial design, UX and mechanical engineering, and building several prototypes for joint testing. Likewise, BatchOne helped to find the right manufacturing partner and supported the Design for the Manufacturing (DFM).
